Wentworth Smith Trophy 2016

CLEAN SWEEP FOR EAST BRIGHTON

The home club took all the main prizes in this year's event held yesterday June 5th in almost perfect golfing weather. 

Steve Baker won the Wentworth Smith stableford trophy with 42 points, Justin Maynard was runner up with 40 and Toby Hill of Dyke G.C. took 3rd with 39. The Scratch trophy went to Justin Maynard scoring 74 gross. runner up was Ryan Miller (West Hove) 75, third was N Mason (B&H) 75.

TEAM EVENT--The team shield was also claimed by East Brighton's squad of S Baker 42, J Maynard 40, Captain Ian Richmond 37, Andy Horsley 36, Tommy Pattenden 36 Total 191--second team was Dyke on 179, West Hove 176.

EAST BRIGHTON WIN JUNIOR CUP

The Junior Cup (for players of 14 handicap and above) was played at East Brighton yesterday (15th May) in fine but chilly conditions.

The morning semi-final results were:-

Dyke Beat Brighton & Hove 4-1,  and East Brighton just beat West Hove on countback of holes up 9-5.

So after lunch The Plate went to West Hove who defeated Brighton & Hove 3-2.

The final between the home club and Dyke G.C. saw the first 3 matches go easily to East Brighton--Dyke managing a half and a win in the last 2 matches--but --too late.

The winning East Brighton team were:-

HOME TEAM WIN FOR B & H

At a very sunny Brighton and Hove Golf Club yesterday, the home team beat Dyke GC 4-1 before lunch, and West Hove were defeated by East Brighton by the closer margin of 3-2.

The Plate final between West Hove and Dyke gave Robin Fuller and his Dyke team victory by the odd 2 matches for 'The Plate',

The first 3 matches of the Intermediate Cup FINAL went the way of the home team with East Brighton winning the last 2 matches. So Brighton and Hove 'ran out' winners 3-2.

After the matches a minute's silence was held in memory of Micky Phillpot, a past Secretary and President of The B.D.G.S.---- he will be greatly missed in the local golf community.

SENIOR CUP 2016

Very strong, cold Easterly winds made Dyke Golf Club a tough test for all players in first event of this year.
Morning semis saw Home club defeat Brighton & Hove and West Hove beat East Brighton.
So Plate final result was a win for Brighton and Hove 4-1 (3 order of Merit points).

The FINAL was closely fought between West Hove and The Dyke with 2 wins and a half each . So countback of 'holes up' came into operation---this gave a win to The Dyke 11 holes up to 8.

At the conclusion of this year's events, Dyke G.C. have won the Bill Weeks Trophy for the 6th year in a row.

Captains' Putter 2015

After previous date was postponed due to bad weather, East Brighton laid on pleasant conditions for this event which is combined with Pro's Trophy, Secretaries Cup and The BDGS President's Salver.

4 Presidents contested The Salver with ROY BOWERMAN (Dyke GC) winning  (32 points.)

ADRIAN MILLIGAN the local pro shot 4 under 68 to take the Pro's Cup and prize.

The Secretaries Cup was won by PETER BAKER of East Brighton (39 pts) 

The Captains Putter team event was a close-run thing until a fine score of 39 pts  from Gary Epstein clinched it for The Dyke with a total of 159 from West Hove on 156.
